Overview
Shopee is one of the leading e commerce platforms in Southeast Asia. In 2019, I worked on the app preview copy for Shopee’s App Store and Play Store pages to support app downloads and app updates.
As a Copywriter, my focus was to communicate Shopee’s core features in a clear, concise, and benefit led way. The copy needed to help potential users quickly understand what Shopee offers, while also reminding existing users why updating the app was valuable.
Problem space
App store preview screens have very limited space, but they play an important role in shaping a user’s first impression before download or update. The challenge was to explain Shopee’s most important features quickly, without overwhelming users with too much information.
Because users often scan app store screenshots instead of reading every detail, the copy needed to be short, direct, and easy to understand at a glance.
User needs
Potential and existing users needed to understand three things quickly.
- What Shopee offers
- What features are useful for them
- Why the app is worth downloading or updating
The copy needed to make Shopee’s value clear within a few seconds.
Content strategy
I focused the copy on Shopee’s most used and most recognisable features, then translated those features into simple user benefits.
Instead of explaining every product in detail, I prioritised short phrases that could work well with visual screenshots. Each line had to support the image, highlight one clear feature, and make the app feel useful, easy, and worth trying.

Outcome
The final copy highlighted Shopee’s most used features with simple and scannable wording. It helped potential users understand the app faster and supported Shopee’s goal of increasing downloads and updates through clearer app store communication.
The project strengthened my ability to write high impact marketing copy in a limited space, where every word needed to quickly communicate value and support conversion.

Welcome and brand trust
This screen introduces Shopee as the number one online shopping destination in Indonesia, supported by Cristiano Ronaldo as the brand ambassador at the time.
What the copy is doing
- Creates instant recognition by pairing a strong claim with a globally known figure
- Positions Shopee as a trusted and popular shopping platform
- Uses a simple welcome message to make the app feel accessible to new users
- Supports download intent by making the first impression feel big, confident, and memorable
Why it matters
The first app preview screen needs to build trust quickly. By combining a clear market position with a familiar brand ambassador, the copy helps potential users understand Shopee as a leading and credible platform before they even install the app.

Free shipping value proposition
This screen highlights Gratis Ongkir Xtra, one of Shopee’s strongest and most used benefits.
What the copy is doing
- Focuses on a clear user benefit, which is saving money while shopping
- Uses short and familiar wording that users can understand at a glance
- Prioritises Shopee’s main USP instead of explaining too many features at once
- Makes the app feel immediately useful for price conscious shoppers
Why it matters
App store users often scan preview images quickly. A benefit like free shipping is easy to understand and directly relevant to shopping decisions, so placing it early helps users see Shopee’s value immediately.

Shopee Live feature discovery
This screen introduces Shopee Live, a newer feature at the time, and positions Shopee as a pioneer in live shopping.
What the copy is doing
- Introduces a new feature using simple, action based wording
- Helps users understand that they can watch their favourite stores directly in the app
- Makes the feature feel familiar by connecting it to the behaviour of watching content
- Strengthens Shopee’s image as an innovative e commerce platform
Why it matters
New features need to be explained in a way that feels immediately useful. Instead of describing Shopee Live technically, the copy shows the experience in user language. This helps both potential users and existing users understand why the feature is worth trying or updating the app for.
